About the Role

Lead a team of machine learning engineers focused on search relevance for enterprise search products. You will measure and improve the ranking and relevance of AI-powered search applications, and advance RAG-based objectives such as summarization and the groundedness and completeness of citations. You will guide end-to-end model development—from data synthesis and feature engineering to experiment design and evaluation—ensuring scalable, robust search systems as we scale to new customers and data types.

What You'll Do

• Recruit, hire, and mentor a high-performing team of machine learning engineers.
• Maintain a ranking and relevance mindset and develop thought leadership on our long-term relevance roadmap.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
• Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and support professional growth of team members.
• Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets for ML initiatives; ensure successful execution from ideation to production deployment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and priorities.
• Drive the technical vision and strategy; guide the integration and application of LLMs and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques to enable modern, intelligent search experiences.
• Oversee the research, development, and deployment of ML models and algorithms; stay current with the latest advancements to leverage cutting-edge technologies.
• Implement best practices for model development, data pipelines, and evaluation; monitor and optimize performance, scalability, and reliability of ML systems.
• Ensure AI solutions meet high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
• Collaborate with leadership, product managers, customer success staff, and partner teams to align ML initiatives with business goals and provide regular updates on status, challenges, and successes.

What We're Looking For

• Master’s degree in Computer Science specializing in Machine Learning or related field; PhD is a plus.
• 8+ years of experience in applied machine learning, preferably in ranking/relevance, including 3+ years in technical leadership or management roles.
• Proven technical expertise at Staff Engineer level or above.
• Proven experience managing high-performing teams, mentoring staff-level engineers, with a track record of delivering production-grade projects.
• Proficiency in Python, Golang, and C++.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices and experience deploying ML models in production.

Nice to Have

• Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and large language models.
