Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s

1. Operational Management

• Supervise day-to-day SAG mill operations during the assigned shift.

• Monitor and control SAG mill throughput, feed rate, power draw, load level, and grind size.

• Optimize mill performance to maximize production and recovery.

• Coordinate plant activities with Crushing, Maintenance, Dewatering, Concentrator, and Technical Services teams.

• Ensure stable operation of auxiliary systems including:

▪ Mill lubrication systems

▪ Mill drive systems

▪ Cyclone classification circuits

▪ Feed conveyors

▪ Process water systems

• Manage process upsets and implement corrective actions promptly.

2. Process Optimization

• Monitor key operating parameters and adjust operating strategies accordingly.

• Analyse plant data and identify opportunities for throughput improvement.

• Work closely with Metallurgical and Process Engineers to improve circuit performance.

• Minimize process downtime through proactive operational management.

• Support plant improvement projects and commissioning activities.

3. Coordination

• Coordinate planned maintenance shutdowns and equipment isolation activities.

• Ensure timely reporting of equipment defects and abnormal conditions.

• Verify work quality following maintenance interventions.

• Assisting Reliability and Maintenance teams in root cause failure investigations.

4. People Leadership

• Supervise, coach, and mentor operators and process attendants.

• Conduct shift handovers and operational reviews.

• Manage employee performance in accordance with company standards.

• Identify training needs and support employee development plans.

• Ensure adequate workforce deployment and coverage during shifts

5. Reporting and Administration

• Prepare shift production reports and operational summaries.

• Maintain accurate production, downtime, and operational records.

• Report deviations from production plans and propose corrective actions.

• Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and documentation requirements.

Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge

• Education

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in:

▪ Mineral Processing

▪ Metallurgical Engineering

▪ Mechanical Engineering

▪ Mining Engineering

▪ Process Engineering

▪ Related technical discipline

• Experience

▪ Minimum 5 years' experience in mineral processing operations.

▪ Minimum 2 years in a supervisory role within a concentrator or processing plant.

▪ Demonstrated operational experience in:

• SAG Milling

• Crushing and Grinding Circuits

• Classification Systems

• Process Control Systems

• Continuous Mining Plant Operations

• Technical Knowledge

• Strong understanding of SAG mill operation and optimization.

• Knowledge of grinding and classification principles.

• Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and SCADA platforms.

• Understanding of equipment condition monitoring.

• Knowledge of production reporting systems.

• Working knowledge of maintenance planning principles.

• Ability to interpret process trends and metallurgical data.

• Strong understanding of mining safety legislation and company standards.

Working Conditions

• Rotational shift work including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

1.1. Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, standards, and procedures.

1.2. Participate in health, safety and environment training programs to understand potential hazards, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.

1.3. Report any health, safety and environmental concerns, incidents, or near misses promptly to the designated supervisor or safety officer.

1.4. Assist in identifying workplace hazards and participate in risk assessments to minimize risks to personal health and safety.

1.5. Wear appropriate PPE as required for specific tasks or environments and ensure that it is maintained and used correctly.

1.6. Be familiar with emergency response procedures, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and first aid protocols.

1.7. Follow established safe work practices and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, or illnesses.

1.8. Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely, following manufacturer's instructions and the AML safety guidelines.

1.9. Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to reduce hazards and prevent accidents.
