About the Role Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a national law firm, is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal for our Miami office. This hybrid role supports construction defect, insurance coverage, and general civil litigation, performing research, fact investigation and document preparation for attorneys.
What You'll Do
- Review and manage case files from inception through trial/settlement.
- Prepare initial discovery (interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admissions).
- E-File in State and Federal Court systems; journal deadlines for responses and monitor timeliness.
- Prepare draft responses to discovery, including document productions and privilege logs.
- Prepare legal documents such as briefs and pleadings.
- Prepare case and medical chronologies, deposition summaries/abstracts, and trial binders.
- Investigate facts as requested by attorneys; draft and follow up on subpoenas (including medical).
- Review and analyze medical records; attend trial as necessary.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; five (5) or more years of insurance defense experience required.
- Experience with trial preparation and organization of witness materials; preparation of exhibits; experience with exhibit manipulation software (Sanction/Trial Director/TrialPad), Relativity and PowerPoint is preferred.
- Heavy experience issuing/tracking subpoenas for records, including medical.
- Knowledge in insurance defense, general civil, business and product liability defense litigation.
- Working knowledge of internet, Excel and Microsoft Word; E-Filing experience in State and Federal Courts.
- Strong writing/editing, communication, problem solving, attention to detail and confidentiality; ability to work independently and in a team; willingness to work additional hours to meet goals.
Nice to Have
- Experience with exhibit manipulation software such as Sanction/Trial Director/TrialPad, Relativity and PowerPoint (preferred).
