About this role
Liquid Cooling Technician
Job Description Summary
The Liquid Cooling Technician supports the operation, maintenance, and reliability of liquid cooling systems in mission-critical data centers. This role performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on coolant distribution units, rear-door heat exchangers, immersion cooling systems, and related rack-level infrastructure. The technician helps maintain system integrity, thermal performance, and uptime through disciplined execution, accurate documentation, and timely escalation of abnormal conditions. Working with the Liquid Cooling Lead, Operations, and Reliability Engineering teams, this position supports safe, reliable cooling for high-density compute environments.
Job Description
- Perform PM, PdM, and corrective maintenance on liquid cooling equipment, including CDUs, pumps, valves, piping, RDHx, immersion systems, and rack-level components.
- Inspect systems for flow rate, differential pressure, supply and return temperatures, and operating balance against established standards.
- Support isolation, draining, flushing, and refilling of coolant loops while preventing air intrusion and contamination.
- Assist with system startup, shutdown, sequencing, and stabilization activities.
- Identify and escalate leaks, flow restrictions, pressure anomalies, and thermal performance issues in accordance with site procedures.
- Support coolant quality checks, including sample coordination, contamination monitoring, and reporting of abnormal conditions.
- Perform approved valve operations and loop reconfigurations without disrupting active cooling loads.
- Follow SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs to ensure maintenance work is completed within defined risk controls.
- Record maintenance work, inspections, and observations in the CMMS with accurate and complete asset information.
- Conduct system rounds to assess physical condition, vibration, connections, seals, hoses, and insulation integrity.
- Verify post-maintenance performance by confirming stable temperatures, balanced flow, and appropriate pressure conditions.
- Assist vendors during maintenance, commissioning, and upgrades while ensuring compliance with site standards.
- Support commissioning and recommissioning by verifying flow, temperature performance, and system operation.
- Maintain cleanliness and contamination control standards during hose handling, connection work, and fluid exposure activities.
- Inspect fittings, couplings, quick connects, and sealing interfaces to prevent leaks and mechanical failures.
- Monitor liquid cooling alarms and perform initial diagnostics and response actions.
- Support emergency response for leaks, pressure loss, and cooling degradation events.
- Identify early signs of system degradation and communicate findings to the Lead and Reliability teams.
- Maintain readiness of tools, PPE, and spare parts required for liquid cooling maintenance.
- Provide field feedback to support continuous improvement, maintainability, and failure trend analysis.
Requirements
-
2–5 years of experience with mechanical, hydronic, cooling, or related infrastructure systems.
-
Experience with liquid cooling, piping, or critical facility systems preferred.
-
Working knowledge of flow, pressure, temperature, and heat transfer fundamentals.
-
Ability to follow SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs in a critical environment.
-
CMMS experience preferred.
-
Strong troubleshooting, inspection, and documentation skills.
-
Ability to support 24/7 operations, shift schedules, and emergency response as needed.
-
Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and contamination control practices.
