About the Role The City of Dayton seeks a Lifeguard Supervisor to oversee lifeguarding, aquatic and recreation activities at city facilities. Under general guidance, you will develop programs to meet area needs while supervising safety operations and program delivery. Work includes field visits, staff conferences, and review of activity reports to ensure quality and compliance. What You'll Do

  • Supervise lifeguarding, aquatic, and recreation activities at various recreation facilities.
  • Guard swimming pools to direct water safety and prevent accidents; ensure non-swimming participants stay in shallow water.
  • Perform rescues and administer emergency first aid; provide swimming and water exercise instruction.
  • Maintain order and discipline of participants; check pool equipment, vacuum, clean; treat pool water to maintain chemical balance; clean decks, gutters, scum lines; backwash filters; clean restrooms, guard room and shower rooms.
  • Inspect facilities for maintenance needs and coordinate with maintenance staff; develop programs that meet area needs under general guidance. What We're Looking For
  • Education: Graduation from high school (or GED).
  • Experience: One (1) year as a Lifeguard at an aquatic facility. One (1) year of teaching or coaching in the aquatic field may be substituted for Lifeguard experience.
  • License: Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
  • Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain current and valid certificates in Lifeguarding Training, Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer or successor courses offered by the American Red Cross.
  • Background Check: A background investigation and evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.
  • Medical Examination & Drug and Nicotine Testing: Final appointment contingent upon passing a job-related medical examination including drug screen. Applicants offered employment will be required to pass nicotine screening; newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
