About this role
Wise
The Legal Operations Officer plays a critical role in enabling the Legal function to operate efficiently, consistently, and at scale. By managing and responding to legal requests from third parties and internal stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions and entities (not only Brazil), you ensure that requests are handled accurately, within defined timelines, and in line with legal, regulatory, and internal requirements.
In this role, you will navigate a wide range of request types, balancing speed, quality, and risk. You will take ownership of requests end-to-end, applying structured thinking and sound judgement to determine the appropriate approach, while escalating where needed.
Working closely with Legal, Servicing, Privacy, and cross-functional teams, you will contribute to a high-performing Legal Operation — supporting strong governance, reducing friction, and enabling the business to move forward with clarity and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
-
- Global Legal Request Handling: Monitor, triage, and respond to civil third-party information requests, court orders (e.g., Norwich Pharmacal Orders), subpoenas, tax authority requests (HMRC, IRS), insolvency cases, and freezing orders.
-
- Operational Excellence & SLAs: Meet strict productivity, quality, and SLA standards while managing multiple priorities and tracking personal KPI performance.
-
- Risk Management & Compliance: Assess risks within requests, maintain meticulous audit trails and records, and escalate complex or high-risk cases to Legal Counsel or senior stakeholders when needed.
-
- Litigation & Cross-Functional Support: Take end-to-end ownership of civil claims, litigation support requests and claims against Wise, ensuring thorough investigation, comprehensive information gathering and accurate, well-evidenced responses. Work closely with Legal Counsel and relevant stakeholders to proactively progress cases, resolve outstanding queries and ensure all matters are managed through to completion.
-
- External & Internal Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for external public authorities and third parties.
-
- Continuous Improvement: Support process improvements, update team documentation/knowledge management, assist with onboarding new team members, and contribute data for audits and reporting.
Qualifications
- Relevant Background: Experience handling legal, regulatory, compliance, or complex operational requests in a regulated environment.
-
- English & Communication: Strong written English with the ability to draft clear, accurate, and professional responses for external third parties and internal stakeholders.
-
- SLA & Volume Management: Proven ability to manage multiple competing deadlines simultaneously, balancing speed, high quality, and strict SLAs.
-
- Attention to Detail & Auditability: High precision with a strong track record of maintaining accurate records and clear audit trails across multiple systems.
-
- Analytical Thinking & Research: Skilled in conducting initial research, applying documented guidance, and using structured thinking to solve complex cases.
-
- End-to-End Ownership & Judgment: Strong accountability to drive matters from assessment to completion, balancing operational efficiency with sound risk assessment (and knowing when to escalate).
-
- Adaptability & Resilience: Thrives in fast-paced environments, managing shifting priorities, high volumes, and time-sensitive incidents with a calm, collaborative mindset.
-
- Continuous Growth: Open to QA feedback, operational data, and continuous learning to consistently improve performance and support wider team priorities (Privacy, Legal, CoSec).
Nice to Have:
- -
- Relevant Exposure: Prior experience with multi-jurisdictional legal requests, court orders, subpoenas, tax inquiries, insolvency, or civil claims.
-
- Industry & Tools: Background in financial services/global regulated environments and hands-on experience with Zendesk (or similar case-management tools).
-
- Communication & Data: Direct experience drafting responses for courts, law firms, or public authorities, using QA feedback and data to optimize ways of working.
