Job title: Legal Help for Immigrants
About the Role Join Catholic Migration Services as part of a team delivering legal help for immigrants. This role supports providing legal advice and representation in matters such as naturalization, green cards, asylum, DACA, TPS, family petitions, U visas, T visas, VAWA, SIJS, and deportation defense, working with experienced attorneys, DOJ-accredited representatives, paralegals and administrative staff to assist low-income immigrants in New York City and beyond.
What You'll Do
- Provide legal advice and representation to immigrants in matters including Naturalization/U.S. Citizenship, Green Cards/Permanent Residence, Asylum and Humanitarian Relief, DACA, TPS, Family Reunification, U and T Visas, VAWA, SIJS, and Deportation Defense.
- Assist with applications for asylum, employment authorization, and other immigration court filings and motions.
- Help eligible immigrants obtain legal status and work authorizations; assist Legal Permanent Residents become Citizens; support clients in deportation/removal proceedings.
- Represent clients in Immigration Court or provide assistance with applications for asylum, employment authorization, court motions, and other items; maintain case files in coordination with a team.
- Provide translation and interpretation accommodations upon request.
What We're Looking For
- Licensed attorneys or DOJ-accredited representatives with experience in immigration law.
- Experience working with immigrants, particularly low-income populations in New York City or New York State.
- Strong communication, organizational skills, and a client-centered approach; ability to explain complex immigration processes.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team (attorneys, paralegals, and staff).
Nice to Have
- Multilingual capabilities; ability to provide translation and interpretation accommodations.
