Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal support to its core exploration and production operations while ensuring regulatory and corporate compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on transaction structuring and commercial matters.
  • Advise on oil & gas exploration, development and production operations, including community, land and pilotage matters.
  • Provide legal support on capital markets transactions, debt and equity financing and commercial negotiations.
  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts, agreements, resolutions, memoranda, letters and other legal documents.
  • Coordinate the effective management of litigation and external legal counsel.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and support compliance initiatives.
  • Develop proactive and defensive legal strategies to protect the Company's interests.
  • Collaborate with Technical, Operations, Finance and other internal teams on legal matters.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the General Manager, Legal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.).
  • Nigerian Law School qualification and membership of the Nigerian Bar Association.
  • Master's degree in Law is an advantage.
  • Minimum 10 years' legal experience, with strong experience supporting technical and operations teams within a producing Oil & Gas E&P company.
  • Prior experience in a law firm is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience within the Nigerian legal system.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate law in Nigeria, UK and US.
  • Demonstrated experience in contracts management, negotiation and legal advisory.
  • Strong understanding of the Oil & Gas sector; indigenous E&P experience is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, negotiation and relationship-management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
