About the Role Segal McCambridge, a national litigation firm, is actively hiring a Legal Assistant to join our Detroit (Southfield) office to support an active litigation team. The role provides high-level administrative support to attorneys focusing on civil litigation matters and contributes to a collaborative, fast-paced environment within a growing national firm.

What You'll Do

  • Create, edit, format, and finalize a wide variety of documents including correspondence, memoranda, discovery, pleadings, all types of motions and briefs, and other legal documents
  • File and serve legal documents in MI Federal Courts and local courts throughout the state; communicate with courts, opposing counsel, clients and vendors
  • Process vendor invoices and prepare check requests; prepare expense reimbursement forms
  • Maintain attorney calendars, schedule court appearances, depositions, meetings and deadlines
  • Open new files and ensure proper indexing and filing of original legal documents and electronic files
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for trials, including organizing exhibits, coordinating witness schedules and drafting trial-related documents
  • Make travel arrangements and appointments for attorneys and coordinate meetings, depositions, etc.
  • Enter billable time entries into the firm's timekeeping system accurately and in a timely manner
  • Work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment, assisting attorneys and supporting colleagues as needed
  • Perform general administrative duties such as filing, photocopying, scanning, managing office supplies, answering phones, and all other duties as assigned by your supervisor

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a legal assistant in a civil litigation setting
  • Experience with MI State and Federal court procedures and rules
  • Strong understanding of civil litigation procedures, court rules, and legal terminology
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently under pressure
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in drafting, editing and proofreading legal documents
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Windows applications, Internet search engines and electronic court filing and service applications
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate and follow instructions effectively
  • Independent judgment required to plan, prioritize and organize diversified workload
