About the Role McKendree University invites qualified applicants to join our team as part-time faculty to teach ENG 203/303 American Literature to 1900 for face-to-face courses at the Lebanon, IL Campus. The course surveys early American writers from the Puritan period to the nineteenth century with emphasis on the growth of Romanticism and the development of realism and naturalism. Authors may include Bradford, Bradstreet, Franklin, Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, Hawthorne, Melville, Dickinson, and Twain, among others.
What You'll Do
- Teach ENG 203/303 American Literature to 1900 to undergraduate students in-person at the Lebanon, IL campus.
- Deliver lectures, lead discussions, and assess student work in alignment with course objectives.
- Develop and maintain a course syllabus and instructional materials; provide timely feedback and guidance to students.
- Hold regular office hours and participate in routine faculty responsibilities as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Preferred: prior college teaching experience.
- Ability to teach face-to-face at the Lebanon, IL campus.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Nice to Have
- Willingness to teach online/remote if needed, subject to course needs and state residency requirements.
- Online teaching experience is a plus.
- Online/remote opportunities may exist dependent on course needs; applicants must reside in IL, CA, FL, TN, or KY.
Compensation & Benefits
- Regular pay rate: $2,145.00 for each 3-hour course, per semester. Higher rates may apply for larger course enrollments, labs, or other duties.
- Part-time employees are not eligible for benefits.
