About the Role Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) seeks a part-time lecturer to teach the course "Social Constructs of Western Performing Arts" (3 credit hours) as the second in a three-course series. The instructor will lead onsite classes at the CCPA Chicago campus, collaborating with two full-time instructors to help guide course development, and will engage a diverse student body across majors in Western art music, theatre, and dance. The role supports student retention and success, with a cap of 20 teaching hours per week and responsibilities including syllabus submission each semester, and clear, timely communications using Roosevelt email.

What You'll Do

  • Teach the 3-credit course "Social Constructs of Western Performing Arts" as part of a three-course series, to students in BM, BM-Music Education, and BFA programs.
  • Conduct weekly onsite class meetings at the CCPA Chicago campus with students across multiple degree programs.
  • Support student retention through effective pedagogy, and ensure timely submission of grades and communications.
  • Submit a studio syllabus each semester using the university template; maintain consistent use of the Roosevelt email for correspondence.
  • Collaborate with two full-time instructors teaching other sections to guide course development; opportunities to teach in other relevant areas as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience teaching performing arts and/or higher education settings; ability to teach interdisciplinary content on historical origins and current effects of social constructs and norms within Western performing arts (music, theatre, dance).
  • Ability to work with students across majors and degree programs (BM, BM-Music Education, BFA).
  • Strong communication, reliability, and ability to meet deadlines; comfort using Roosevelt email and following university policies.
  • Willingness to collaborate with full-time instructors to develop and refine the course.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing interdisciplinary curricula in music, theatre, or dance.
  • Familiarity with social constructs in performing arts and openness to teaching in additional relevant areas as assigned.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $3,982 per 3-credit course (per course basis).
  • Part-time position with a cap of 20 total teaching hours per week.
  • Onsite work at Roosevelt University's Chicago campus.
