About this role
John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a senior college of the City University of New York, invites applications for a full-time Lecturer of Spanish, Specialist in Translation and Interpreting, in the Modern Languages and Literatures Department. The position is located in New York, NY, and is aimed to begin in Fall 2027. The appointment is tenure-bearing through a Certificate of Continuous Employment (CCE) after the sixth annual reappointment, with promotion opportunities to Senior Lecturer after eight years of full-time service and to Doctoral Lecturer upon completion of a Ph.D. The college seeks candidates who will contribute to a diverse and multicultural academic environment and who support access and excellence in higher education.
Responsibilities
- Teach Spanish-English Translation and Interpreting and related courses, with a teaching load of 4/4 (eight undergraduate courses per year).
- Share responsibility for departmental and college committee work and other duties as assigned by the chair.
- Actively recruit, advise, and mentor Spanish majors, minors, and Certificate students, among others.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, the department, and the College to advance program and departmental goals.
- Contribute to the college’s mission through leadership, community service, and/or lived experiences, as aligned with the college’s priorities.
Requirements
- Experience teaching Spanish and English Translation and Interpreting.
- Enthusiasm and preparedness to work with students from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative work within a department and college context.
