POSITION OVERVIEW

The Department of Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice Administration (LPS) at John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites applications for two full-time lecturer positions to begin Fall 2027.

The successful candidates will teach security related courses in our undergraduate Security major and minors in Homeland Security and Cyber Crime, from entry level up to capstone seminars. This includes courses such as Management and Leadership; Security and the Law; Business Planning and Budgeting, and Project Management courses. Depending on qualifications, there may be opportunity to teach online graduate level courses in the Security Management Masters.

Candidates must be willing to serve as the coordinator of the Security related major and minors which includes assessment and curricular development for the major and minors. Candidates are expected to have successful college-level teaching experience, as well as positive teaching evaluations. Candidates are expected to have prior expertise as practitioners and in teaching courses in the area of private security, particularly information/cyber security. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the goals of the college through their leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences.

The position of lecturer is tenure-bearing through what is called a “certificate of continuous employment” (CCE) at the sixth annual appointment. This position of lecturer is a teaching position with a course load of eight classes per year in addition to major expectations of departmental service. There is no expectation of research or publication.

The Department of Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice Administration is a Flagship Department of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. We are an interdisciplinary department whose faculty specialize in criminal justice broadly defined. This includes the fields of criminal justice, international criminal justice, policing, law, courts, and corrections. LPS is home to the Criminal Justice Bachelor of Science (CJBS) major which enrolls more than 3,000 undergraduate students, the Police Science Major, Security Management Major and Masters, and on a rotating basis, the International Criminal Justice Major.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

• Master's degree in Security Management, Homeland Security, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a closely related field.

• Demonstrated professional experience in one or more areas of security management, cybersecurity, homeland security, risk management, intelligence analysis, emergency management, corporate security, critical infrastructure protection, or related fields.

• Evidence of teaching experience, training delivery, student mentorship, or professional instructional experience in higher education, government, military, law enforcement, or private-sector settings.

• Ability to teach undergraduate courses in security management and contribute to curriculum development in emerging areas of security and technology.

• Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates will possess one or more of the following:

• Professional experience in cybersecurity, information assurance, intelligence analysis, critical infrastructure protection, corporate security, emergency management, risk assessment, or security operations.

• Demonstrated ability to teach and/or develop courses in areas such as: Cybersecurity Fundamentals, Information Systems for Management, Data Analytics and Data Visualization; Cloud Computing and Information Security, Risk Management, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, Intelligence and Threat Analysis, Security Management Ethics, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Artificial Intelligence, Security Applications.

• Industry certifications, such as: CISSP, CISM, Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Emergency Management certifications (FEMA, IAEM, etc.)

• Experience working collaboratively in academic environments, including program assessment, curriculum revision, student advising, online instruction, accreditation activities, or service to the institution.

• The Department is currently engaged in exciting efforts to modernize and expand its Security Management curriculum. We are particularly interested in candidates whose professional expertise can help prepare students for careers in cybersecurity, intelligence and threat analysis, critical infrastructure protection, corporate security, risk management, data analytics, and emerging technologies. Practitioner-scholars who can bridge theory and practice and bring real-world experience into the classroom are encouraged to apply.

COMPENSATION

$59,035 - $94,965. Salary commensurate with education and credentials.
