About the Role A Learning Support Assistant role within a primary school, working under the guidance of the class teacher to support a SEND pupil. The post involves creating a positive, inclusive learning environment, promoting safeguarding and assisting with the pupil’s learning and development. It also requires collaboration with the SENCO and other staff to meet varied needs. What You'll Do
- Deliver pastoral and learning support for the SEND pupil and other children in the classroom.
- Provide feedback on progress and achievement.
- Establish 1:1 mentoring arrangements and motivate the SEND pupil; support reading and independent learning.
- Work with the SENCO and teachers to develop and implement EHC and behaviour mentoring plans.
- Promote inclusion and help SEND pupils interact and participate in all activities.
- Support small groups and reading activities; read with SEND pupil and complete reading records as directed.
- Assist with administration tasks, displays, and preparation of learning resources.
- Manage behaviour, encourage self-control and independence, and support learning objectives.
- Accompany teachers on educational visits and support the school environment at the start and end of the day.
- Contribute to safeguarding, health and safety, and the school's ethos; attend meetings and training as required.
- Facilitate learning during short periods of teacher absence within an agreed supervision system. What We're Looking For

- Previous formal experience working with SEND children; a positive role model; constructive, caring and energetic approach.
- Significant commitment to supporting SEND pupils and meeting varied needs.
- Flexibility to meet the demands of SEND pupils and adapt strategies in their best interests. Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: Scale 3, points 5–7; fixed-term contract for 1 year.
- Pay and hours: Full-time (Monday–Friday 8:30–15:30).
- Induction programme; friendly, caring school community; supportive parents and staff.
- DBS check required; right to work in the UK; visas cannot be sponsored.
