About the Role We’re looking for a Lead WordPress Developer to help transform client requirements into scalable WordPress solutions in an enterprise context. You’ll work with a fully distributed team to design, build, and refine plugins, themes, and sites while guiding technical decisions. You’ll focus on performance, security, and maintainability, delivering high-quality results for clients. What You'll Do
- Transform client requirements into custom WordPress code to address complex problems, including building scalable plugins and themes.
- Create, assist, and review technical scopes and estimates; collaborate across teams to ensure on-time delivery.
- Build, maintain, support, and refactor WordPress sites and content management systems; audit performance, security, and maintainability, with clear recommendations.
- Validate and inform technical decisions across projects; work with developers and clients; participate in peer code reviews and document workflows.
- Implement automated deployment workflows and version control (Git); communicate effectively in a distributed team using Slack, Asana, Notion, and Zoom.
- Guide clients to desired results and contribute to continuous improvement of team processes. What We're Looking For
- Deep understanding of WordPress architecture, especially in the enterprise space; ability to translate client requirements into WordPress code.
- Strong PHP and JavaScript proficiency; solid SQL, HTML5, CSS, and CSS preprocessors.
- Experience creating custom WordPress plugins and themes; ability to scale and meet client needs.
- Experience with Git and deployment workflows; familiarity with automated deployments.
- Excellent communication and collaboration in a distributed team; comfortable guiding clients and participating in peer code reviews.
- 2+ years of agency experience. Nice to Have
- Active involvement in WordCamps and core contributions; speaking at events and contributing to the ecosystem.
- Experience with multi-site WordPress or VIP-level environments.
