MAIN FUNCTIONS

• Lead and supervise welding activities for piping, pressure vessels, structural steel, pipelines, and mechanical equipment.
• Plan and coordinate welding activities in accordance with approved drawings, welding procedures, specifications, and project schedules.
• Supervise welders, welding technicians, fabricators, and welding subcontractors.
• Ensure welding is carried out in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs) and qualified procedures.
• Monitor welding parameters, consumables, preheat, interpass temperature, and post-weld requirements.
• Coordinate welding activities with piping, mechanical, structural, QA/QC, NDT, and construction teams.
• Ensure welds meet applicable project codes, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
• Support welding inspection, NDT, repair, and re-welding activities.
• Maintain welding records, welder qualifications, consumable records, and inspection documentation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review fabrication drawings, weld maps, material specifications, WPS, PQR, and applicable welding requirements.

• Verify that welders are appropriately qualified for assigned welding processes and positions.

• Control welding consumables, including storage, handling, baking, issuance, and traceability.

• Monitor joint preparation, fit-up, alignment, root gap, cleanliness, and welding sequence.

• Supervise welding processes such as SMAW, GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, FCAW, and SAW, as applicable.

• Ensure correct preheating, interpass temperature control, and post-weld heat treatment where specified.

• Coordinate visual inspection and NDT activities such as RT, UT, MT, PT, and PAUT.

• Review weld inspection results and coordinate repair of defective welds.

• Monitor welder productivity and welding quality.

• Ensure welding machines, leads, electrodes, shielding-gas systems, and other equipment are fit for use.

• Support weld procedure qualification and welder performance qualification activities.

• Maintain welding traceability, including welder identification, weld numbers, materials, consumables, and inspection results.

• Investigate recurring welding defects and implement corrective actions.

• Prepare daily welding progress reports and quality records.

• Conduct toolbox talks and ensure compliance with PTW, JSA/JHA, hot-work, fire prevention, confined-space, and other HSE requirements.

• Provide technical guidance and coaching to welding personnel.

• QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• HND, Bachelor's degree, welding trade qualification, or equivalent technical qualification in Welding Technology, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication, or a related field.

• Significant experience in welding supervision within the oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, pipeline, fabrication, or construction industry.

• Strong knowledge of welding processes, procedures, materials, and weld inspection requirements.

• Experience with WPS, PQR, welder qualification records, weld maps, and welding traceability.

• Knowledge of applicable standards such as ASME, API, AWS, ISO, and project-specific requirements.

• Relevant welding or inspection certification such as CSWIP, AWS, IIW, or equivalent is advantageous.

• Experience coordinating welders, fabricators, NDT personnel, QA/QC inspectors, and contractors.

• Strong leadership, planning, coordination, reporting, and problem-solving skills.

• Good understanding of welding HSE requirements and hot-work controls.

• Ability to work in onshore, offshore, fabrication yard, pipeline, shutdown, turnaround, and construction environments.
