About the Role Lead Substation Physical Engineer to deliver high‑impact substation physical design projects for utility systems ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. You’ll apply expertise in grounding, equipment arrangement, and structures to create safe, reliable layouts that support grid modernization and renewable connections. Remote candidates must be located in the United States and be willing to travel to customer sites and into the office as needed. What You'll Do
- Lead and deliver substation physical design projects with technical excellence and on‑time performance.
- Partner with internal engineering groups and external clients to understand needs, align expectations, and deliver solutions that meet standards.
- Perform detailed QA/QC reviews on substation physical design packages for accuracy, constructability, and compliance.
- Read, design, and review essential substation drawings, including one‑lines, three‑lines, plan‑and‑section views, grounding layouts, and foundation designs.
- Create and verify bills of materials for substation physical components, ensuring precision and alignment with project requirements.
- Conduct site visits at customer locations to gather data, validate designs, and support successful project execution.
- Ensure compliance with quality control and safe work practices while maintaining project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Collaborate within a design team of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians and work with client standards to implement designs. What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 8+ years of substation physical design experience.
- Experience performing grounding studies, lightning protection analysis, and lighting studies.
- Strong communication skills to interact with internal teams and clients.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and stay organized in fast‑paced or high‑pressure environments.
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and provide leadership when needed.
- Self‑starter with initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical abilities and problem‑solving skills, both independently and collaboratively.
- High computer competency and comfort with engineering tools/software.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License. Nice to Have
- Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification.
- Working knowledge of protection and control design.
- Experience with bus calculations.
- Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS.
