Job title: Lead Software Engineer - Backend with DevOps
About the Role We are seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer to design, implement, and manage scalable CI/CD pipelines and Azure cloud infrastructure. This is a senior individual contributor role – autonomous, partnering with engineering teams to build robust, secure delivery pipelines and cloud operations.
What You'll Do
- Act as a force multiplier for a wider engineering team of ~50 engineers by building internal tooling, shared workflows, and self-service infrastructure to maximise productivity.
- Design, implement, review and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices end-to-end.
- Design and deliver production-ready CD pipelines with safe deployment strategies (blue/green, canary, automated rollback).
- Contribute to development of .NET services and internal tooling in C# .NET (and occasionally F#).
- Architect and manage Azure-based cloud infrastructure using Azure Bicep, ensuring HA, scalability, and security.
- Drive automation across build, test, deployment, and monitoring processes.
- Define and enforce DevOps standards, governance, and best practices across the organization.
- Monitor and troubleshoot pipelines and cloud infrastructure; maintain documentation.
What We're Looking For
- 6-8 years of combined experience in DevOps and software development; strong foundation in both.
- Strong programming skills in C# .NET (or equivalent); advanced scripting in PowerShell, Bash, Python.
- Proficient with Git; Bachelor's or Master's in CS/Engineering or equivalent.
- Deep practical experience with Azure and Azure DevOps; AKS or production Kubernetes experience.
- Experience with CI/CD tools (TeamCity, Azure Pipelines, GitHub Actions).
- Experience with large-scale .NET codebases (~1M LOC across ~300 projects).
- Experience building/operating production-grade CD pipelines with safe deployment strategies.
- Familiarity with security tools in CI/CD and Azure B2C/B2B.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor).
- Azure certifications (AZ-400, AZ-104, AZ-305) are a welcome bonus but not required.
