About this role
Lead Quality Engineer
The Role: Lead Quality Engineer
The Team
Enterprise Solutions (ES) Technology brings together data, software, services, and expertise to deliver innovative solutions for global financial markets. The team works closely with customers to help them manage complex business, regulatory, and risk requirements.
Financial Risk Analytics (FRA), part of Enterprise Solutions, delivers information-centric capital markets and risk solutions for trading desks and their risk-management partners. Its products support counterparty credit risk, xVA, and market risk for both buy-side and sell-side institutions.
We are seeking a Lead Quality Engineer to join the FRA Technology team. Quality Engineering is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle and spans application, analytics, data, integration, and platform layers. The successful candidate will help evolve QA from a primarily validation-focused function into a proactive, automation-first, engineering-led capability.
The Impact
As a Lead Quality Engineer, you will own and influence the quality strategy across the software delivery lifecycle—from requirements and solution design through development, release, and production support. You will partner with Product, Engineering, DevOps, Architecture, Operations, and Customer Support teams to identify risks early, improve test coverage, increase release confidence, and promote shared accountability for quality.
This role requires strong technical expertise, a solid understanding of financial risk platforms, and the ability to lead quality initiatives across agile delivery teams.
Responsibilities
-
Own and continuously improve the quality strategy across the full software development lifecycle, embedding effective quality gates from requirements and design through release and production support.
-
Shift quality engineering from defect detection to defect prevention by identifying risks, control gaps, and testability concerns early in the delivery process.
-
Lead the design, development, and evolution of scalable automated test frameworks covering UI, API, data, integration, regression, and other relevant testing areas.
-
Develop, execute, and maintain comprehensive test suites based on software requirements, technical specifications, business workflows, and real-world customer usage.
-
Drive risk-based testing for financial risk platforms, prioritising coverage for regulatory workflows, calculation accuracy, data integrity, security controls, system integration, and customer-critical journeys.
-
Design and implement test automation using Java, Python, Selenium, Cucumber, Carina, and other appropriate technologies and frameworks.
-
Establish and monitor quality engineering standards and metrics, including automation coverage, defect leakage, release readiness, test reliability, environment stability, and production incident feedback.
-
Champion continuous testing within CI/CD pipelines by integrating reliable and efficient automated validation into build, deployment, and release processes.
-
Improve release confidence and operational resilience by validating deployment readiness, rollback capability, observability, environment consistency, and applicable non-functional requirements.
-
Lead quality governance for agile teams, ensuring that acceptance criteria, test evidence, sign-offs, and release risks are clearly documented, auditable, and decision-ready.
-
Manage and support QA and UAT environments, build deployments, test data, test execution, release planning, and testing sign-off activities.
-
Partner with Product, Engineering, DevOps, Architecture, Operations, and Customer Support to resolve quality issues and strengthen end-to-end software reliability.
-
Collaborate with business stakeholders and, where appropriate, clients to understand business impact and translate workflow complexity and customer needs into effective test coverage.
-
Use AI and modern engineering practices to improve QA productivity through intelligent test generation, defect analysis, regression optimisation, log analysis, and test data creation.
-
Mentor QA engineers and influence developers to build quality into their work by promoting automation, code quality, testability, maintainability, and shared ownership.
-
Perform gap analysis across application and platform test coverage and define remediation plans to address identified risks.
-
Balance manual and automated testing based on delivery needs, while continuously moving toward automation-first and analytics-driven quality engineering.
-
Act as a technical leader and subject-matter expert, proactively resolving issues, managing risks, and escalating concerns appropriately.
-
What We’re Looking For
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent professional experience may also be considered.
-
10 plus years of work experience across software quality engineering and end-to-end testing activities, including experience in a technical leadership or lead QA capacity.
-
Strong hands-on experience with automation and white-box testing using Java, Python, or both.
-
Experience designing and maintaining test automation frameworks using Selenium WebDriver, Cucumber, Carina, or equivalent web-testing frameworks.
-
Demonstrated experience with API and web services testing, including the development or use of API automation frameworks.
-
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software testing principles, test design techniques, and quality engineering practices.
-
Experience with SQL and relational databases; knowledge of PL/SQL, NoSQL databases, and Linux/UNIX environments is desirable.
-
Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and working with build and deployment processes.
-
Understanding of performance, integration, regression, data, security, and non-functional testing practices.
-
Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex issues across application, data, and platform layers.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present quality risks and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.
-
Demonstrated ability to work effectively across cross-functional and geographically distributed agile teams.
-
Ability to operate independently, take ownership, influence engineering decisions, and drive quality improvements across the organisation.
-
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience working with capital markets, financial risk analytics, counterparty credit risk, xVA, market risk, or related financial services platforms.
-
Experience testing calculation-intensive, data-intensive, or regulatory applications.
-
Knowledge of cloud-deployed applications, containers, microservices, messaging platforms, and distributed systems.
-
Experience applying AI-enabled tools and modern engineering practices to improve testing efficiency and quality outcomes.
-
Experience establishing quality metrics, governance processes, and continuous improvement programmes for engineering teams.
