Job title: Lead Product Manager, Safety (IC7)
About the Role Lead Product Manager, Safety will oversee a cross-functional product team within Wikimedia Foundation's Product Safety and Integrity group. The role shapes strategy at the intersection of online safety, privacy, and community-driven governance, working with trusted Wikipedian communities and AI/ML initiatives. You will help drive high-impact problems and deliver features that harden defenses against abuse while preserving reader and editor trust.
What You'll Do
- Help identify the right problems to solve and guide work toward the highest-impact outcomes.
- Lead the development of new products, features, and technical interventions that deter bad actors and protect users' security and privacy.
- Drive a cross-functional team (engineering, design, data science, community management, and others) to iteratively create and deploy changes.
- Steer product planning and prioritization across safety and anti-abuse features, align teams, resolve competing priorities, and base decisions on data and community feedback.
- Proactively seek ideas and feedback from user communities throughout product development, maintaining strong relationships on behalf of WMF and the PSI team.
- Shape WMF's strategic direction in user safety and anti-abuse, working closely with leaders in other departments.
- Maintain awareness of current technologies and developments in online safety, security, and privacy.
What We're Looking For
- At least 5 years of professional product development experience, including agile development for internet- and consumer-facing software. Formal Product Manager title not required if demonstrated success coordinating multiple functions.
- Experience querying and analyzing data to drive measurable solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of interacting effectively with all levels of management, staff, and communities.
- Ability to manage a diverse set of responsibilities in a dynamic, results-oriented environment.
- Belief in Wikipedia and its community model as a good thing in the world.
- Ability to be decisive and expeditious with complex stakeholders, including community members.
- Ability to communicate strategically yet candidly with community members about work and issues.
Nice to Have
- Experience in online security and privacy, on its own or as part of a larger product.
- Experience working with online public communities.
- Background in software engineering or applied information security.
