• MAIN FUNCTIONS

• Lead and supervise surface preparation, grit blasting, and protective coating activities.

• Plan and coordinate painting and blasting work in accordance with approved procedures and project schedules.

• Inspect surfaces before, during, and after preparation and coating.

• Ensure surface preparation meets specified cleanliness and surface-profile requirements.

• Supervise painters, blasters, technicians, and subcontractors.

• Coordinate activities with mechanical, structural, QA/QC, inspection, operations, and HSE teams.

• Ensure correct selection, mixing, application, and curing of protective coating systems.

• Monitor environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, dew point, and surface temperature before coating application.

• Ensure compliance with approved coating specifications, inspection plans, and manufacturers' recommendations.

• Maintain records of blasting, painting, inspection, material usage, and completed work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review coating specifications, procedures, drawings, work packs, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).

• Plan work fronts, manpower, equipment, materials, scaffolding, ventilation, and containment requirements.

• Supervise abrasive blasting using approved media and equipment.

• Verify surface cleanliness using applicable standards such as SSPC/NACE/ISO 8501, where specified.

• Check surface profile and ensure contaminants such as oil, grease, dust, rust, and salts are adequately removed.

• Verify paint batch numbers, shelf life, storage conditions, mixing ratios, and application requirements.

• Supervise application of primers, intermediate coats, finish coats, and specialized protective coatings.

• Monitor wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT) measurements.

• Coordinate inspection and testing of completed coating systems with QA/QC personnel.

• Ensure defective or damaged coatings are repaired and re-inspected.

• Monitor abrasive and paint consumption and minimize material wastage.

• Ensure proper containment and collection of spent abrasive and paint-related waste.

• Enforce safe working practices for abrasive blasting, spray painting, work at height, confined spaces, and hazardous chemicals.

• Conduct toolbox talks and ensure compliance with PTW, JSA/JHA, PPE, and HSE requirements.

• Prepare daily progress reports, inspection records, coating reports, and material reconciliation.

• Provide technical guidance to painting and blasting personnel.

• QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• OND, HND, technical certificate, or equivalent qualification in Coating Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.

• Significant experience in industrial painting, protective coatings, abrasive blasting, and surface preparation, preferably in oil & gas.

• Experience supervising painting and blasting crews and subcontractors.

• Knowledge of protective coating systems for piping, tanks, pressure vessels, structural steel, offshore structures, and equipment.

• Familiarity with coating inspection and standards such as NACE/AMPP, SSPC, and ISO 8501, as applicable.

• Knowledge of coating inspection equipment, including DFT gauges, surface-profile gauges, dew-point meters, and environmental monitoring instruments.

• Relevant coating certification such as AMPP/NACE Coating Inspector is an advantage.

• Strong knowledge of HSE requirements for abrasive blasting and paint application.

• Good leadership, supervision, coordination, documentation, and reporting skills.

• Ability to work effectively in onshore, offshore, refinery, fabrication, shutdown, turnaround, and construction environments.
