About the Role Lead Engineer Product Development at Copeland responsible for end-to-end ownership of project engineering activities, acting as a technical anchor, and driving cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality HVACR solutions.
What You'll Do
- Act as a key Individual Contributor (IC) with end-to-end ownership for project delivery and the ability to lead project teams.
- Define and drive project plans, schedules, and milestones to meet business objectives; ensure on-time delivery with required performance, quality, and cost targets.
- Design & Engineering: develop and evaluate engineering proposals, perform design calculations (thermal, machine design, fluid mechanics) independently; validate designs for functionality, manufacturability, and performance; verify design documents and drawings.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: work with various engineering teams to execute product development, cost reduction, and technology projects.
- Testing, Validation & Problem Solving: analyze complex test data, derive insights, drive resolution of performance issues; lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions.
- Project Management: define and drive planning and execution with risk identification and mitigation; ensure proper documentation including closure reports.
- Configuration Management: drive practices throughout the project lifecycle.
- Process Improvement & Innovation: lead initiatives to improve processes, quality, and delivery efficiency; foster a culture of innovation.
- Engineering Tools & Methods: apply DFMEA, DOE, VAVE; leverage GT Suite, Mathcad, MATLAB for continual improvement.
What We're Looking For
- M.Tech (Design / Thermal).
- 12-15 years of experience in Product Design and Development of compressor or rotating machines used in Refrigeration/AC or related applications.
- Hands-on experience with mid-to-complex projects, focus on continuous improvement, product optimization, and technical support.
- Strong analytical capability in structural and thermal engineering; able to solve complex engineering problems.
- Proficiency in design calculations and validation; ability to correlate with testing.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability.
- Experience in project execution, problem solving, and sound technical decision-making.
- Experience with DFMEA, DFM&A, VAVE, DOE and statistical data analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proficient with MS tools for presentations; collaborative across functions.
- Creative, fast learner with a strong affinity for learning and driving innovation.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of casting, sheet metal.
- Knowledge of Reliability Engineering.
- Working knowledge of GT Suite / Mathcad / MATLAB.
- HVAC System familiarity.
