About this role

**Job Description Summary

The Lead Engineer 1 – Pressure Parts & Piping operates with a high degree of autonomy to independently lead the design, engineering, and integration of boiler pressure parts and boiler area piping systems for new build, retrofit, and upgrade projects. As an intermediate-to-senior technical professional, the role requires advanced subject matter expertise and evaluative judgment to solve complex engineering challenges outside of standard operating practices.

Responsibilities encompass the creation of pressure parts arrangements, 3D piping layouts and models, engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design calculations, IBR calculations and IBR documentation as well as providing end-to-end support through customer approval, procurement, erection, and commissioning

Success in this position relies on strong technical proficiency in steam-water cycle systems, piping layout, stress analysis, 3D modelling, and international codes and standards. Additionally, it demands effective cross-functional coordination, proactive customer interface, and technical leadership to deliver quality engineering outputs aligned with project cost, quality, and schedule commitments.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Advanced Technical Execution & Ownership: Independently lead, own, and drive complex engineering scopes for boiler pressure parts and boiler area piping systems across new build, retrofit, and upgrade projects, ensuring alignment with cost, quality, and schedule commitments .

  • Design & System Integration: Create and oversee complete pressure parts arrangements, composite and component models using AutoCAD, 3D wireframe models, and 3D piping layouts/models (PDMS/E3D)—incorporating equipment, supports, pipe racks, valves, cable trays, and maintenance provisions .

  • Piping & System Engineering: Design and review diverse systems (including boiler start-up systems, critical piping, auxiliary steam, water, air, and fire protection), P&IDs, line sizing, line lists, valve lists, system descriptions, and technical datasheets .

  • Calculations & Code Compliance: Perform and review technical specifications, design calculations, hydraulic and pump head calculations, pipe sizing, wall thickness assessments, material selection, piping stress analysis, data matrix preparation for CAESAR II, and IBR/ASME code calculations and statutory approvals .

  • Procurement & Material Management: Manage material ordering information (tubes, pipes, plates, forgings, fittings, fixtures, shipping frames, and temporary closures), SAP MM creation, purchase requisitions, and inventory stock linking. Prepare preliminary Bills of Materials during tendering and shipping Bills of Materials during execution .

  • Drawing & Model Verification: Generate and approve component arrangement drawings for critical equipment (drums, separators, and spheres), field weld data sheet drawings and sketches, fabrication drawings, isometric drawings, support drawings, and vendor submittals .

  • Complex Problem Solving: Apply advanced analytical thinking to resolve non-routine manufacturing, design, and site-execution challenges, establishing precedents where necessary

  • Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate closely with other functions like supply management / Project management / Quality management team, internal engineering disciplines, global teams, customers, vendors, third-party inspectors, and statutory authorities to conduct design reviews, finalize terminal points, secure inputs for secondary attachments (such as welded attachments), and manage interfaces .

  • Project Execution Support: Support project lifecycle phases during manufacturing, procurement, erection, commissioning, performance testing, and site issue resolution.

  • Standardization & Quality: Drive continuous improvement, productivity enhancement, and quality control across engineering tools, processes, and deliverables.

  • Mentorship & Technical Leadership: Act as a primary technical resource and mentor for junior engineers, providing guidance and oversight within the discipline.

Desired Responsibilities

  • Design and review piping systems including boiler start-up systems, pressure part related piping, critical piping, auxiliary steam systems, water systems, air systems, and fire protection systems.

  • Preparation of Technical Specifications, Design code calculations & project related documents.

  • Preparation of Composite Modelling, Component Modelling through AutoCAD as per contract requirements, work instructions, installation guidelines and best arrangement practices.

  • Preparation of Data Matrix files for Input to PDMS & CAESER.

  • Material Ordering Information (Tube, Pipe, Plate, Forging, Fitting, Fixtures, Shipping Frame, Temporary closure, Packers, etc.)/SAP MM creation, Purchase requisition. Linking with Stock through Stores availability.

  • Generation of Component arrangement drawings for Critical components like Drum, Separators & Spheres.

  • Field Weld Data Sheet drawings & sketches preparation

  • Preparation of Preliminary Bill of Materials during Tendering stage / Shipping Bill of Materials during execution stage

  • Co-Ordination with Other Engg/cross function disciplines at various stages to do design review, finalise the Terminal points of components, arrange to get the related Inputs to secondary components like attachments welded to the Pressure part components.

  • IBR/ASME Code Calculation and IBR/ASME approval.

  • Generation of Pressure Parts Arrangement drawings.

  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables including P&IDs, line sizing, line lists, valve lists, system descriptions, datasheets, technical specifications, material requisitions, and engineering calculations.

  • Perform or guide hydraulic calculations, pump head calculations, pipe sizing, wall thickness calculations, material selection, and piping stress analysis.

  • Prepare, review, and approve arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, isometric drawings, support drawings, and related 3D model outputs.

  • Review vendor documents, 3D models, and fabrication drawings for technical compliance and project requirements.
