Job title: Lead Data Modeler
About the Role We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Modeler to spearhead data modeling initiatives for Teradata projects with Teradata customers. In this leadership role, you will guide a team of data modelers, design scalable data architectures, and align data models with business objectives in client-facing environments. This contract position offers opportunities on international projects, collaboration with stakeholders, and data-driven innovation, particularly in the insurance domain.
What You'll Do
- Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models to represent various data domains, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and scalability.
- Define data structures, relationships, and attributes that capture business requirements and enable efficient storage and retrieval.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, analysts, and data consumers to gather requirements and ensure data models meet business needs.
- Translate business requirements into database schema designs, applying normalization and denormalization to optimize data integrity and performance.
- Define constraints, validation rules, and data governance policies within data models to ensure data integrity and quality.
- Establish data quality standards and best practices, and maintain CDM/LDM/PDM/Semantic dimensional models.
- Create comprehensive documentation of data models, including ER diagrams, data dictionaries, and metadata definitions; keep documentation up-to-date as models evolve.
- Collaborate with data scientists to provide structured data for analytics and machine learning.
- Enforce data governance and compliance by incorporating security and privacy considerations; work with legal/compliance teams on data protection regulations.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data modeling and database design.
- Provide regular updates on tasks and deliverables, including status, ETA, completion percentage, priority, allocation, issues, and gaps.
- Lead a project team of Data Modelers and provide guidance on Teradata projects.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree and 10+ years IT experience; 8+ years of Data Modeling experience.
- Proven experience as a Data Modeler/Database Designer/Information Architect.
- Proficiency with data modeling tools such as ERwin, PowerDesigner, ER/Studio.
- Strong understanding of relational database concepts, normalization, and denormalization.
- Familiarity with database systems (Vantage, SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- Experience with big data platforms and NoSQL is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of Insurance domain is a plus; experience with reference industry data models is advantageous.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to articulate complex concepts clearly.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; knowledge of data governance and compliance regulations is desirable.
- Willingness to travel – short-term and long-term if required.
