Job title: Lead Compressor Design Engineer

About the Role Lead Compressor Design Engineer at Copeland's Vilter brand will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and manage compressor projects from inception to completion, delivering reliable, efficient HVACR and industrial compression solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and follow projects from inception to completion, ensuring engineering principles are applied throughout
  • Develop compressor and/or package units meeting engineering specs, production and quality standards, and customer specifications
  • Create test programs to thoroughly evaluate products under varying conditions using established engineering concepts
  • Lead and manage projects, review drawings, and implement design changes to improve cost, production efficiency, and quality
  • Perform hands-on assembly/disassembly of compressors and components in the lab
  • Review drawings, develop standards, and verify/approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases
  • Assist in pre-job planning, scheduling, and project management
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to address problems and drive continuous quality improvements
  • Analyze test results relative to design/specs and modify equipment to meet specifications
  • Develop and record test procedures, results, and recommendations; use software to analyze and communicate results
  • Complete and maintain required reports and documentation; ensure housekeeping and safety compliance
  • Travel in the US and overseas up to 10% after training

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minimum of 10 years of mechanical experience (rotating machinery, preferably compressor design)
  • Experience with 3D/2D design programs (Inventor/AutoCAD) and proficiency in mechanical/thermodynamic calculations
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings, specifications, regulatory codes, and technical procedures
  • Experience writing reports and presenting information to field sales, customers, and colleagues
  • Knowledge of mathematical concepts (probability, statistical inference, geometry, trigonometry) and ability to develop/use calculation software
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle diverse variables with limited standardization
  • Able to operate a variety of engineering tools with a creative mindset
  • Legal Authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship will not be provided
  • Onsite work arrangement: fully onsite, not hybrid or remote
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%
