About this role

About the Role The Business Analyst – Actuarial Commercial Lines sits within the Global Data Office at the intersection of business strategy, data and analytics. You will work closely with Commercial Lines Actuarial Groups to translate actuarial needs into actionable data engineering specs and serve as Product Owner for actuarial data & tools within the Global Data Warehouse. What You'll Do

  • Lead deep, structured requirement sessions with senior actuaries to understand workflows, data nuances and reporting needs, creating detailed functional specifications.
  • Facilitate alignment across actuaries and Data Office teams on project priorities, timelines and deliverables.
  • Act as Product Owner for Data Platform & Tool Development: develop roadmaps for actuarial data and tools and partner with data engineers to build and deploy them in a timely manner.
  • Lead Agile ceremonies, refine user stories, plan sprints and manage the backlog (backlog grooming for reserving, pricing, modeling).
  • Translate actuarial requirements into actionable user stories, epics and acceptance criteria for developers.
  • Ensure data governance & quality, maintaining documentation for data lineage, testing, and production changes. What We're Looking For
  • 7+ years of experience in business analysis, actuarial tool design within the insurance/financial industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, computer science, data analytics, mathematics, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of Commercial Insurance actuarial concepts (e.g., reserving methods, pricing tools).
  • Experience with data environments, ETL and visualization tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership in Agile teams and managing product backlogs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Preferred: Actuarial credentials, actuarial exams, or deep understanding of actuarial reserving/pricing concepts.

  • Base salary ranges depending on location: NJ $120,000-$150,000; NY $130,000-$160,000. Actual compensation depends on skills, experience, and qualifications.
