About the Role BVNK is seeking a fast-learning and well-rounded Lawyer with familiarity in financial services law including payments and ideally, blockchain and digital assets to be a deeply embedded strategic advisor to BVNK's teams, including Product, Engineering, Compliance, Regulatory, Banking, Marketing, Finance and HR. You’ll help shape and build new products by identifying legal risks and leading the drafting and negotiations for market-leading partnerships and embedded propositions.
What You'll Do
- Partner closely with global teams including UK, EU, South Africa, Singapore and San Francisco to advise on financial services requirements, payments, outsourcing, data privacy, intellectual property, employment laws, financial crime matters, disputes, litigation, and corporate governance.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including service contracts, outsourcing agreements, SaaS agreements, and other documentation involving complex transactions.
- Review marketing materials to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, protection of intellectual property, disclosures, risk mitigation, and alignment with company policies.
- Assess legal risks and propose innovative, effective legal solutions, while constructively challenging business decisions from a legal perspective.
- Work closely with other members of the Legal Team to support BVNK’s global BAU activities and legal operations.
- Conduct legal research and stay up-to-date on cryptocurrency, payments and other relevant areas, anticipating legal and commercial risks and advising the business accordingly.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of cryptocurrency and fintech legal frameworks, or a strong interest in learning about cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of experience as a qualified lawyer in-house, at a top law firm or a government agency.
- Familiarity with UK and/or EU and/or US financial services laws and regulations including payments and ideally blockchain and digital assets.
- Strong experience negotiating and drafting customer, partner and supplier agreements, including complex payment services-related agreements.
- Experience with intra-group matters such as intra-group outsourcing and advising on corporate law matters.
- Experience with corporate governance, employment matters, disputes and litigation is ideal but not mandatory.
- Highly collaborative, inquisitive, and solutions-oriented, with prior experience advising on product development at fast-moving technology companies.
- Biased toward action, able to roll up your sleeves and get things done.
- Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills, able to simplify legal concepts and communicate them clearly.
- Genuine curiosity, passion for your work, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
