About the Role ANDRITZ is seeking a Lathe Machinist to set up and operate a lathe to produce precision machined parts. The role involves reading prints, selecting tooling, setting speeds and feeds, inspecting output, and collaborating with shop personnel in a manufacturing environment.
What You'll Do
- Set up and operate lathe to perform machining operations.
- Select and install appropriate chuck jaws; position, align, and secure workpiece; support part as required (tailstock/live center/steadyrest).
- Set speed, feed, tooling, and tool holder according to procedures; install tooling and control levers to complete operations; adjust as needed.
- Perform machining cycles and may perform multiple setups to complete cycles.
- Carry out metal-cutting operations such as facing, boring, drilling, turning, chamfering; grind tools for special applications as needed.
- Inspect and gauge own work; stamp/identify parts; record production details.
- Monitor oil, cutting oils, and coolants to ensure continuous operation.
- May operate single-purpose automatic spline mill with lathe to mill external keyways.
- Load/unload/start machines and maintain good housekeeping.
- Cooperate with other shop personnel as required.
What We're Looking For
- Ability to set up and operate a lathe and perform common metal-cutting operations.
- Skill in reading prints and work orders to determine operation procedures and tolerance specifications.
- Experience selecting jaws, aligning and securing workpieces, and using tailstock/steadyrest as needed.
- Familiarity with tooling installation, speed/feeds, and basic inspection gauges.
- Aptitude for tool grinding and basic metalworking safety practices.
- Ability to work under supervision and cooperate with team members.
- Desirable: experience with a spline mill for external keyways.

- Experience with spline milling is a plus.
