Job title: Landscape Planner
About the Role We are seeking a talented and experienced Landscape Planner to join our established landscape planning team at LUC. The role focuses on developing strategies, policies and plans to create successful environments in both urban and rural settings, working with local authority and private sector clients on a range of national to local projects including renewables and routeing. The team collaborates across disciplines to deliver high-quality landscape outputs and supports professional development.
What You'll Do
- Manage and/or assist with delivery of a wide range of projects.
- Liaise with clients and internal and external team members.
- Provide high quality project outputs (including written reports) and ensure deliverables meet the highest quality standards.
- Contribute to tenders and pricing exercises and help grow the portfolio of work.
- Share in the management and ownership of the business through the Employee Ownership Trust.
- Work on the development and application of landscape strategies, policies and plans for urban and rural environments.
- Collaborate with ecology, historic environment, landscape design and planning teams to fulfil project aims.
- Be willing to travel to sites and client offices across the UK; hybrid working with Edinburgh/Glasgow offices (minimum two days in-office).
- Support on a range of projects including LVIA/landscape assessments, landscape character and sensitivity studies, green belt studies, and other landscape design and assessment tasks.
- Use computer software (Word/Excel) to prepare high-quality reports and presentations.
What We're Looking For
- Essential: Degree or postgraduate landscape qualification; Chartered Membership of the Landscape Institute or working towards it.
- Experience of LVIA (and related assessments such as Seascape, Townscape, Residential Visual Amenity, Aviation Lighting Impact Assessment, etc.), ideally in renewable energy or supporting infrastructure.
- Keen to learn and contribute on various projects; capable of acting as project manager for more experienced candidates.
- Organized and efficient with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent report-writing and editing skills.
- Strong communication and proactive relationship-building with colleagues and clients.
- Proficiency in Word and Excel; able to prepare high-quality reports.
- Willingness to travel around the UK; driving licence.
- Experience of fieldwork and photography.
Desirable: Experience in Landscape Character Assessment (LCA), Landscape Sensitivity Assessment (LSA), Green Belt reviews, management of protected landscapes, climate change responses, and knowledge of LVIA viewpoints photography and visualisation production.
- Experience with renewable energy infrastructure and wind farm design software.
- Experience on Nationally Significant Infrastructure projects and involvement in landscape and visual aspects of such schemes.
Nice to Have
- Experience of working on NSIPs and related landscape and visual assessments.
- Knowledge of landscape design principles and guidance.
- Experience with dynamic climate change and future landscapes planning.
Compensation & Benefits Salary: £32,500 - £47,400 FTE (depending on experience). The role supports a flexible working culture with hybrid in-office requirements (Edinburgh/Glasgow) and minimum two days per week in the office. Part-time options (minimum 30 hours per week) may be discussed. The position includes the opportunity to participate in the Employee Ownership Trust, placing full ownership of the company with employees. Travel costs are covered by LUC.
