Laboratory Supervisor & Electronics Technician
Job Summary
Reporting to the Department Chair of Physics, Laboratory Supervisor & Electronics Technician supports physics faculty, staff, and students in teaching and research activities through the preparation, operation, maintenance, repair, modification, and fabrication of scientific equipment and laboratory systems. The Laboratory Supervisor & Electronics Technician sets up lecture demonstrations and laboratory experiments and develops new demonstrations and laboratory procedures in consultation with faculty and the Lab Coordinator. The Laboratory Supervisor & Electronics Technician manages laboratory inventory and technical supplies, including maintaining inventory records and coordinating the purchase and storage of materials and equipment. The Laboratory Supervisor & Electronics Technician provides technical support for departmental activities and assists students from other departments with related instructional and research projects.
Job Duties
- 50% - Set up lecture demonstrations and laboratory experiments. - (Essential)
- 25% - Repair, modify, and fabricate equipment for physics classroom demonstrations and instructional and research laboratories. - (Essential)
- 10% - Develop new lecture demonstrations and laboratory procedures in consultation with faculty and the Lab Coordinator. - (Essential)
- 10% - Maintain the inventory database. Purchase and store technical supplies. - (Essential)
- 5% - Support and organize occasional department activities outside of regular hours. Assist students from other departments with related projects. - (Essential)
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of college coursework in physics, electronics, engineering, physical sciences, or a related field; and at least one introductory physics course.
- One year of experience in maintenance and repair of scientific instruments commonly used in a physics laboratory. Extensive experience with electronics and computers.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair of scientific instruments commonly used in a physics laboratory.
- Demonstrated skill in related shop skills (drill press, electronic tools), CAD, measurement guides, calibration equipment, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough; skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems and handling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and electronically.
- Demonstrated skill in adapting to and performing work effectively with multiple and changing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Physics or engineering related field.
EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $70,304/yr-$72,000/yr

Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
