Laboratory Services Manager

Oversee and manage ECE student teaching laboratories and stockroom operations, including safety and regulatory compliance, equipment maintenance, inventory, budgeting, scheduling, and security. Lead laboratory staff and personnel processes while ensuring efficient, high-quality operations and reporting to upper administration.

Responsibilities

  • Direct/Manage/Supervise student-teaching laboratory services and stockroom within the ECE Department. Oversee all laboratory activities, services and operations responsible for cost control, waste reduction, quality, and safety. Lead security and access operator for university C- CURE system. Departmental Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance officer ensuring training for lab staff and compliance reporting. Ensure lab equipment is in proper working order, oversee maintenance and ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, standards, and protocols. Manage planning and development for new laboratory services and expansion of current services such as 3D and resin printing. Track, report and maintain student lab fee budget and associated inventory. Coordinate with scheduling to meet course specifications. Oversee inventory reporting and property disposal for the department. Prepare reports and keep upper-level management informed of progress and problems. Responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, time card approvals and pay reviews. Broad knowledge of the field with proven leadership skills.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

  • Manager, Laboratory Services: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.

  • Senior Manager, Laboratory Services: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.

  • Preferences

  • Electrical Engineering degree may be preferred.

  • Master’s degree may be preferred.

  • The University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems (“URS”).
