About the Role TriCore Reference Laboratories is seeking a Laboratory Scientist to perform waived, moderate or high complexity laboratory testing under general supervision at the Woodward/Hematology location. The role includes maintaining instruments, running QC, troubleshooting, and assisting with waived point-of-care testing as needed. This position is designated as Testing Personnel for moderate and high complexity testing under CLIA regulations and may involve specimen collection depending on site.

What You'll Do

• Perform and document clinical laboratory testing of waived, moderate or high complexity as appropriate, under general supervision.
• Note abnormal patient results and inform supervisor, pathologist, or principal investigator as appropriate.
• Operate laboratory equipment, interfaces and instruments; perform and document basic maintenance.
• Perform routine logging for QC/QA purposes; collect and compile QA data; monitor QC for trends and take corrective action as directed.
• Troubleshoot testing procedures; identify testing problems and recommend solutions using defined guidelines.
• Actively participate in regulatory inspections.
• Take inventory as needed; order supplies for the Section/Department as directed.
• Assist with training of new staff and/or students.
• Serve as a liaison with internal and external customers/employees/clients.
• Depending on site or department, participate in the POCT oversight program including but not limited to; training lab and non-lab personnel in the use of waived testing; troubleshoot the performance of waived testing, including IT connectivity issues; review the quality performance of waived testing; participate in the implementation, including validation, if necessary, of waived testing.
• Depending on site or department, may collect specimens such as blood, urine, sputum and other body fluids and prepare for analysis.

What We're Looking For

• Education and qualifications to meet CLIA requirements for Laboratory Scientist I, II, and III/IV, including: a Bachelor’s degree in biological or chemical sciences; or an Associate’s degree in laboratory science (biology or chemistry) or medical laboratory technology with the required credit hours; or equivalent education including specified science/chemistry/biology coursework; and/or prior CLIA technologist qualification.
• Laboratory Scientist I: no experience required; multiple eligible education paths as described.
• Laboratory Scientist II: Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, medical laboratory science, or medical technology with no experience required, or Bachelor’s in biology or chemistry with two years direct clinical lab experience; or Associate’s degree with two years direct clinical lab experience; or equivalent combination with required hours; or military training plus degree and experience.
• Laboratory Scientist III: two years of Laboratory Scientist II at TriCore, or Bachelor’s degree in biology or chemistry with four years direct clinical lab experience; or Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, medical laboratory science, or medical technology with two years direct clinical lab experience.
• Note: various acceptable alternatives for physical science degrees through 2024 and military training paths may apply.
