Job title: Laboratory Scientist

About the Role The TriCore Laboratory Scientist performs waived, moderate, or high complexity laboratory testing to support diagnosis and treatment, maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment, and ensures quality control before patient testing. The role may oversee waived point-of-care testing and involves training staff; staff are designated as Testing Personnel under CLIA for moderate/high complexity testing.

What You'll Do

  • Perform and document clinical laboratory testing with independent judgment.
  • Note abnormal results and inform supervisor, pathologist, or principal investigator as appropriate.
  • Operate laboratory equipment and interfaces; perform routine maintenance.
  • Conduct routine QC/QA logging, collect QA data, monitor QC for trends, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Troubleshoot testing problems and recommend solutions using established guidelines.
  • Actively participate in regulatory inspections.
  • Manage inventory and order supplies for the section/department as directed.
  • Assist in training new staff and/or students.
  • Serve as liaison with internal and external customers/employees/clients.
  • Depending on site, participate in POCT oversight: training, troubleshooting IT connectivity, reviewing quality performance, and participation in validation/implementation of waived testing.
  • Depending on site, collect specimens (blood, urine, sputum, and other body fluids) and prepare for analysis.

What We're Looking For

  • Compliance with CLIA requirements for Testing Personnel for moderate and high complexity testing and eligibility for LS I–IV levels.
  • Education/experience options for Laboratory Scientist I: Bachelor's degree in biological or chemical sciences; or associate degree in laboratory science/medical laboratory technology; or equivalent education with required course hours; no experience required.
  • Laboratory Scientist II: Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science/medical technology (or biology/chemistry with two years of direct clinical laboratory experience) or associate degree with two years of direct clinical laboratory experience; or equivalent combination including 60 semester hours with specified science/MLT course hours; military training accepted; and/or prior CLIA technologist qualification.
  • Laboratory Scientist III: Must meet one of: two years as Laboratory Scientist II at TriCore; or Bachelor's degree in biology/chemistry with four years direct clinical laboratory experience; or Bachelor's degree in clinical/medical laboratory science or medical technology with two years direct laboratory experience.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: hourly pay; amount not disclosed. Location: Lovelace Women’s Hospital; schedule includes Saturdays/Sundays and holidays.
