About the Role TriCore Reference Laboratories seeks a Laboratory Scientist to perform waived, moderate or high complexity laboratory testing, maintain and troubleshoot equipment, run quality control, and support waived point-of-care testing. This role requires independent judgment, regulatory readiness, and collaboration with internal/external customers. What You'll Do
- Perform/results and document clinical laboratory testing with independent judgment and responsibility.
- Note abnormal patient results and inform supervisor, pathologist, or principal investigator as appropriate.
- Operate laboratory equipment, interfaces and instruments; perform and document basic maintenance.
- Perform routine logging for QC/QA; collect and compile QA data as directed; monitor QC for trends and take corrective action as needed or directed.
- Troubleshoot testing procedures; identify testing problems and recommend solutions using defined guidelines.
- Actively participate in regulatory inspections.
- Take inventory as needed; order supplies for the Section/Department as directed.
- Assist with training of new staff and/or students.
- Serve as liaison with internal and external customers/employees/clients.
- Depending on site/department, participate in POCT oversight program: train lab and non-lab personnel, troubleshoot waived testing (including IT connectivity), review quality performance, and participate in implementation/validation if necessary.
- Depending on site/department, may collect specimens such as blood, urine, sputum and other body fluids and prepare for analysis. What We're Looking For
- Minimum Qualifications are structured around CLIA levels I–IV. Laboratory Scientist I candidates must meet at least one option (e.g., bachelor’s degree in biological/chemical science; or associate degree in laboratory science/MLT with approved coursework; or equivalent education/training per CLIA; no experience required).
- Laboratory Scientist II candidates may hold a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, medical laboratory science, or medical technology with no experience, or a biology/chemistry degree with two years direct clinical lab experience, or an associate degree with two years direct clinical lab experience, or equivalent mix of education and experience including CLIA-qualified pathways.
- Laboratory Scientist III qualifications include progression from Lab Scientist II or a bachelor’s degree in biology/chemistry with four years direct clinical lab experience, or a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science/medical laboratory science/medical technology with two years direct clinical lab testing experience, with additional acceptable pathways noted in the posting.
