Job Summary
- We are seeking a skilled, meticulous, and patient-focused Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our laboratory team.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for performing laboratory investigations accurately and efficiently, maintaining quality standards, supporting clinical diagnosis, and ensuring reliable turnaround times for patient results.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory investigations according to established protocols.
- Collect, receive, label, process, and analyze patient specimens appropriately.
- Conduct hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, immunology, serology, and other relevant laboratory tests within the scope of practice.
- Ensure accurate processing, analysis, interpretation, and documentation of laboratory results.
- Operate, maintain, and perform basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Carry out internal quality control procedures and participate in external quality assurance programs where applicable.
- Identify and report abnormal, critical, or inconsistent results promptly to the appropriate medical personnel.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, registers, worksheets, and electronic records.
- Ensure proper specimen handling, storage, and disposal in accordance with laboratory and infection-control protocols.
- Maintain strict compliance with biosafety, infection prevention, and laboratory safety standards.
- Monitor laboratory reagents, consumables, and supplies and report shortages or expiry concerns.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support timely and accurate diagnosis.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and maintain professional and ethical standards.
- Participate in health screening programs, medical outreaches, and other hospital initiatives when required.
- Stay updated on current laboratory technologies, procedures, and professional best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) from a recognized institution.
- Must be registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
- Valid practicing license.
- 1–3 years of relevant post-qualification experience is preferred.
- Experience in a hospital, diagnostic centre, or clinical laboratory is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of laboratory quality control and assurance procedures.
- Ability to operate modern laboratory equipment and laboratory information systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or public holidays when required.
