PURPOSE:
- This position assists English Language Learning students and carries out program activities as planned and scheduled by licensed personnel and provides instruction to individual and small groups as directed by the licensed staff. This position also supports Special Education students and programs, General Education students and programs and monitors student safety and behavior in various settings.
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
- Must possess an associate's degree, preferably including coursework in working with children in an educational setting.
- In lieu of Item 1 above, must possess both of the following:
- High school diploma or GED, and
- Passing score on a qualifying academic assessment that measures knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Experience working with children and knowledge of child development.
- Experience in working with students whose native language is other than English.
- Bilingual proficiency.
- Ability to work as a part of a team and able to function independently.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with other employees and students using tact, courtesy and good judgment.
- Must be able to collect data and perform basic mathematical functions.
- Must be able to communicate in written and spoken English with accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to operate standard office equipment such as computer, word processor, calculator and photocopier.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs some or all of the following tasks under the direction of a licensed teacher. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assists in the academic instruction and presentation of instructional materials by individually working with small groups of students, or individual students:
- Reinforcing instruction with ELL students
- Following up on specific language, spelling, reading, mathematics and other subject- area activities as directed by the Teacher
- Monitoring and overseeing student tasks, practices and assignments in various subjects
- Supports assistance in classroom assignments, homework, and projects.
- Prepare instructional materials under direction of licensed teacher. Provides instruction under the direction of licensed teacher.
- Performs a variety of clerical duties using basic office equipment, computers, word processing software, spreadsheets, classroom software, and classroom computer programs.
- Takes and maintains data as needed and required by ELL Program.
- Maintains students' safety and monitors appropriate behavior in multiple settings, including classrooms, small group settings, at recess, during lunch and while buses load and unload.
- Notes discipline issues and complete proper paperwork for reporting such incidents.
- Effectively works and communicates with students, parents, and staff from diverse cultures or backgrounds including those who speak limited or no English.
- Attend in-services and training as required.
- Follow District protocol for reporting absences.
- Annually pass the District's required online training by the District's assigned due date.
- Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.
- Maintains effective working relationships with other staff members, school personnel, students, and parents.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Salary and work year to be according to the current negotiated contract.

- Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board policy.
