Junior Naval Architect
The Opportunity:
As a Junior Naval Architect at KBR, you will have the opportunity to develop your technical capability through working alongside experienced Senior Naval Architects and Subject Matter Experts (SME), you will receive mentorship and guidance while contributing to CLCM engineering activities across a complex maritime sustainment program.
In this role, you will work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, supporting technical activities related to structures, hull design, hydrodynamics, and stability on the Products Being Supported (PBS). You will gain valuable exposure to real-world naval architecture challenges, building your skills and confidence while contributing to engineering outcomes that support sustainment activities.
Under supervision, you will develop your ability to provide risk-based technical advice and recommendations in support of the ACSSPO Principal Engineer on PBS. Responsibilities
- Under supervision deliver Naval Architecture expertise and technical advice, in support of the Engineering activities required of the CLCM.
- Perform activities directed by the ACSSPO Principal Engineer (PE) as required.
- Deliver engineering activities to ensure compliance with approved policy, plans and processes. Conduct work to the requirements of the Engineering Management Plan.
- Develop tasking statements for design tasks to be executed in accordance with the planned schedule.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to develop design solutions and requirements in the context of Engineering Change Management, Configuration management, Systems Safety and Certification.
- Review engineering design task deliverables and conduct associated technical Design Reviews.
- Conduct technical risk assessments within the limits of engineering delegation.
- Work within and to the requirements of Navy Seaworthiness framework and the ACSSPO Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO).
- Verify new Request for Problem Resolution (RPR) against the approved Requirements baseline, Certification Basis and Safety Case Report on the PBS.
- Manage Request for Variations (RFV) assigned prior to expiry date to Return to Standard (RTS), Make Permanent or cancellation.
- Under general supervision, independently evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, calculations and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
- Under supervision, perform work which involves conventional engineering practice and assessment but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, systems integration, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
As the ideal candidate you will bring:
Essential:
- Bachelor of Engineering (preferably Naval Architecture)
- Hold, or be eligible for, membership of a recognised professional body and registration as Chartered Engineering;
- A minimum of 2 years related experience in Naval Architecture.
- Must be eligible for ITAR clearance of relevant ship systems.
