About this role

Junior Legal Counsel - Data Compliance

A family-owned company, bioMérieux has grown to become a world leader in the field of in vitro diagnostics. For more than 60 years and across the world, we have imagined and developed innovative diagnostics solutions to improve public health. Today, our teams are spread across 46 countries and serve 160 countries with the support of a large distribution network. Come and join a family-owned global company with a long-term vision, and a human-centered culture.

As part of the Data Compliance team, you will help ensure the compliant and responsible use of personal, health, research, customer and other company data throughout its lifecycle. You will contribute to the design, implementation and continuous improvement of bioMérieux’s global data compliance framework, particularly in relation to privacy, confidentiality, contracts, artificial intelligence, health and research data, as well as cybersecurity-related legal requirements. In an international, scientific and regulated environment, you will support the Group’s business activities and transformation by translating legal requirements into clear, proportionate and practical recommendations, contractual positions, standards and tools.

What will your main responsibilities be?

  • Provide practical, risk-based advice on data-related requirements, health and research data, and data-driven activities.
  • Draft, review and negotiate agreements relating in particular to data transfers, confidentiality and data protection.
  • Assess data-related legal risks involving suppliers, customers and partners, and recommend appropriate contractual and governance safeguards.
  • Contribute to the implementation of compliance requirements, including assessments, records, transparency measures, responsible-use principles and supporting evidence.
  • Advise teams on the responsible development and use of AI, analytics, data-driven products and emerging technologies, supporting innovation while managing legal risks.
  • Support the management of personal data breaches and other data-related incidents, including notification and communication obligations, in coordination with the relevant functions.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments relating to data compliance and contribute to their implementation through policies, standards, guidance and training.
  • Monitor the activities of relevant professional groups to anticipate future developments and opportunities.
  • Support the Data Compliance team and business functions in preparing for and conducting internal or external audits and regulatory inspections related to the department’s activities.
  • Work with Data Owners and Data Stewards, IT and cybersecurity teams, other LCI&PA centres of expertise, R&D, project teams, marketing, sales and customer service teams to ensure a consistent, pragmatic approach aligned with the Group’s needs.

Who are you?

  • You hold a Master’s degree in law or an equivalent qualification, with a specialisation in data protection, digital law, technology law, health law or a related field.
  • Initial experience or exposure to data protection, data compliance, technology and/or digital and artificial intelligence regulation, including through an internship, would be an advantage.
  • You can analyse legal and operational issues and translate them into pragmatic, risk-proportionate recommendations tailored to business needs.
  • You have strong drafting, negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • You enjoy working collaboratively in an international environment.
  • You demonstrate sound judgement and intellectual curiosity
