Junior Back End Engineer

About the Role

Join the Avigilon Alta Video R&D team in Edinburgh as a Junior Back End Engineer. You’ll contribute to cloud-based video security solutions with AI analytics, across the product range—from research and design through testing to delivering features. This role sits in a collaborative, hybrid-friendly environment in the city centre, offering the chance to grow within a supportive engineering team. What You'll Do

• Work on research, design, testing, and delivering features across our product range.

• Collaborate with a team of engineers to build backend services, primarily using Go, while learning additional languages and frameworks.

• Design, develop, and consume REST APIs and contribute to system security through knowledge of SSL/TLS and crypto concepts.

• Embrace test-driven development, continuous integration/deployment, and Kanban in a team setting.

• Use version control (Git) as part of a collaborative development process.

• Apply your interest in ML/Computer Vision where relevant to backend work. What We're Looking For

• Bright and enthusiastic graduates with a strong academic track record.

• Knowledge of at least one general‑purpose programming language (Go, Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS).

• Ability to design, develop, and consume REST APIs.

• Knowledge of network security (e.g., SSL/TLS) and crypto concepts.

• Appreciation of test-driven development, CI/CD, and Kanban.

• Experience using version control software (Git) as part of a team.

• Experience developing for Machine Learning / Computer Vision.

• Proficient in English; a team-oriented, autonomous problem-solver who can learn from colleagues.
