  • SALARY: The salary range for this position is $52,182.11 to $82,252.88 for Schedule A, and $52,182.11 to $73,634.81 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to August 21, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after August 21, 2014, are considered Schedule B.

  • REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

  • Example of Duties

  • The New Jersey Judiciary has an exciting advancement opportunity open to Hudson Vicinage employees. Under the general direction of the Civil Division Manager or other supervisory personnel, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing mastery level supportive tasks in connection with proceedings instituted before the court. Employees in this title may function as a court clerk, performing related work including, but not limited to, preparing, calling and annotating the court calendar; analyzing reports for distribution or action; provide information to judges, attorneys, or community organizations; answer complaints by telephone, or in writing; apply statutes, court rules, case law, policies or other regulatory standards to cases and other matters; screen confidential material for release to public or other authorized person/agency; interview court users and document acquired information; identify specific needs and available options and/or resources; check accounts for legitimacy or verification of payments; regulate flow of assigned work in accordance with operating schedules; give advice or assist staff or team members with work in progress; arrange for clients' or customers' admission or discharge into/from facilities; analyze data; act as lead worker to team members or other group of non-subordinates in assigned tasks; prioritize cases; advise justices, judges, management, committees, conferences and/or members of a tribunal on legal or case issues; analyze case processing and/or bail from intake through disposition; approve continuances or adjournments in adherence with state or local division rules or practices; provide structured training to co-workers; Implement operating procedures or systems; Inform managers about unresolved staff or team conflicts; swearing in jurors; administering oaths to witnesses; maintaining custody of exhibits; recording and maintaining records of court proceedings; updating case information; and discussing daily court activities, scheduling of cases, calling of calendar, etc., with the Judge. The Judiciary Clerk 4 position may require work in an on-site or virtual courtroom.

  • Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.

Open to employees of the Hudson Vicinage who have an aggregate of one year of permanent service as of the announced closing date in the following career (classified) titles:

  • Eligibility for Advancement: Eligibility is based upon the applicants having achieved all the competencies for advancement to Judiciary Clerk 4 as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form for this title. Applicants for advancement to the Judiciary Clerk 4 title are not required to take a New Jersey Civil Service Commission promotional examination.

  • Experience Requirement: Three years of experience performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts and/or scheduling meetings or appointments.

  • Ability to use a keyboard, no minimum speed.

  • Supplemental Information

  • Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching to perform the essential duties of the position. For some positions, the selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds, in order to perform essential duties of the position.

  • Driver's License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

  • Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

  • Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.

  • Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
