About the Role The Bergen Vicinage Civil Division seeks team-oriented individuals to provide clerical support with a focus on exceptional customer service. Under the direction of the Civil Division Manager or other supervisory personnel, the selected candidates will support court operations through clerical tasks, and may work in onsite or virtual courtrooms.
What You'll Do
- Provide clerical support with emphasis on customer service; assist with court calendars, calling and annotating the court calendar, swearing in jurors, administering oaths to witnesses, and maintaining custody of exhibits.
- Record and maintain records of court proceedings; update case information; schedule cases and calendar activities; discuss daily court activities with the Judge as needed.
- Function as a court clerk in onsite or virtual settings; perform related duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite as an essential function.
What We're Looking For
- One year of experience performing clerical and support services including keyboarding and at least one of: document processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts, or scheduling meetings/appointments.
- Ability to use a keyboard; no minimum speed.
- Physical abilities: climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending, reaching; ability to lift 30-50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Driver's license valid in New Jersey if operation of a vehicle is necessary.
- US citizenship is not required; selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US.
- Background check with fingerprinting; thorough background check required.
- Residency requirement: within one year, establish and maintain principal residence in New Jersey; exemptions possible for hardship or employer critical need.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $47,483.56 to $71,916.05 and $47,483.56 to $64,381.02. For newly hired individuals, starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the range. For current Judiciary employees, promotion/advancement will include a 5% increase of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.
