The Forge Shop Supervisor at Precision Castparts in Houston, Texas, directs all shift operations within the Turbine Forge Department. The role focuses on meeting daily targets for safety, quality, throughput, and cost, ensuring adherence to engineering procedures, compliance with operating schedules, and maintaining a safe, organized workplace that supports efficient material flow for downstream operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain area safety requirements by ensuring compliance with safety, housekeeping, and 6S targets to foster a safe work environment.
- Lead the hourly workforce by training and supervising employees to ensure procedural compliance, driving improvements in first-time yield and overall part quality.
- Coordinate on-shift activities through monitoring material verification, furnace loading, and downstream product movement to sustain material throughput and support downstream operations.
- Communicate effectively with other department leaders, including Engineering and Metallurgy, to ensure proper communication and maintain part quality.
- Monitor daily costs, drive continuous improvement in forging processes, reduce waste, and meet variable cost targets.
- Review process paperwork to verify adherence to job processes and maintain forge conformance.
- Ensure compliance with PPE requirements and foster a safe work environment.
- Manage daily operations and prioritize tasks based on input from various departments.
- Drive procedural compliance and monitor part quality for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with the maintenance department to ensure equipment availability.
- Monitor spending and minimize waste to meet cost targets.
Required skills and qualifications include:
- Strong leadership abilities and effective interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of industrial systems, plant equipment, and processes, with the ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Proficiency in computer applications (Windows, Oracle, Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact well with others.
- Technical proficiency in production operations and understanding customer requirements.
Education and experience:
- College degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in heavy industry manufacturing or a similar field.
- Supervisory experience within a union environment is advantageous.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and the capability to drive change and continuous improvement.
Work environment and schedule:
- This position operates in a manufacturing environment with potential exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and other industrial conditions. It involves both office and shop floor work, requiring interaction with various personnel and departments.
- Occasional travel may be required for training or coordination with external contractors and vendors.
- Flexibility to work across multiple shifts and manage a dynamic work schedule.
- Shifts available: first shift 6:00 am–2:00 pm, second shift 2:00 pm–10:00 pm, third shift 10:00 pm–6:00 am.
