Java Backend Architect

About the Role As Java Backend Architect, you will define and guide the architecture of Java-based backend services, APIs, microservices, and reusable integration components. You will work with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, DevOps, and product teams to translate business needs into secure, scalable technical solutions. What You'll Do

• Define target architectures for Java backend services, microservices, APIs, and reusable integration components, aligned with enterprise standards.
• Design scalable, resilient backend solutions using modern Java frameworks (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Quarkus, Micronaut, Jakarta EE) and patterns (REST, asynchronous messaging, event-driven integration).
• Establish backend architecture principles (modularity, clean architecture, domain-driven design, dependency management, performance, maintainability).
• Define and promote API design standards (contract-first, OpenAPI, versioning, error handling, pagination, idempotency, lifecycle management, backward compatibility).
• Review technical designs for consistency, performance, security, observability, and operational readiness.
• Guide teams in selecting the right framework and architecture approach based on workload, deployment model, maintainability, and enterprise standards.
• Embed security-by-design into backend/API solutions (authentication, authorization, secure transport, secrets management, input validation, secure coding, dependency vulnerability management).
• Define API security patterns (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, mTLS, API gateways, rate limiting, threat protection, access control).
• Collaborate with cybersecurity to address vulnerabilities, findings, penetration test results, and remediation plans affecting backend services and integration assets.
• Promote observability, logging, distributed tracing, monitoring, alerting, and operational readiness of Java backends.
• Support performance, scalability, resilience, availability, and fault-tolerance for critical services and APIs.
• Ensure architecture decisions consider compliance, data protection, risk management, and secure operation in cloud-native and containerized environments.
• Act as a senior technical reference across delivery teams; provide architectural guidance, mentoring, and technical coaching to engineers; lead architecture discussions and design reviews. What We're Looking For
• Passion for designing robust Java backend architectures and experience with modern frameworks to build secure API ecosystems and scalable integration solutions.
• Ability to translate business and platform needs into secure, scalable technical solutions; collaborate with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, DevOps, engineering teams, and product stakeholders.
• Strong technical leadership, mentoring, and ability to guide delivery teams.
• Hands-on experience with Java frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Quarkus, Micronaut, Jakarta EE, and API security patterns (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, mTLS).
• Familiarity with cloud-native and containerized environments, observability, and performance considerations. Nice to Have

• Experience with event-driven architectures and reusable integration components.
