IT Operations Project Manager
Location: San Antonio, Texas (Hybrid)
Schedule: 2-3 days onsite, 2-3 days remote. Hours are M-F 8-5
Length: 12+ Month W2 Contract
Job Summary
- The IT Operations Project Manager will support ongoing technology lifecycle and operational initiatives across the organization. This role is responsible for providing practical project oversight with a strong emphasis on financial management, budget tracking, forecasting, resource capacity, and operational coordination.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and support multiple IT lifecycle and operational workstreams.

Track detailed project and operational financials, including budget vs. actuals, forecasted spend, accruals, and financial adjustments.

Maintain accurate financial reporting and identify potential budget variances.

Support resource capacity planning and tracking across assigned initiatives.

Partner closely with IT infrastructure and operations teams to understand work, dependencies, priorities, and financial impacts.

Provide the appropriate level of project oversight based on the complexity of each initiative rather than applying unnecessary project-management processes.

Coordinate ongoing lifecycle activities where scope, volume, and costs may already be established.

Support vendor management activities, including invoice review and alignment of invoices to appropriate cost objects.

Maintain visibility into schedules, budgets, risks, issues, and operational commitments.

Provide clear, concise status reporting to leadership and stakeholders.

Work independently with operational teams that have limited time for extensive project-management administration.

Communicate effectively with both technical teams and business leadership, translating project-management concepts into straightforward, actionable information.

Utilize Excel and other reporting tools to maintain accurate financial and operational tracking.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating projects within an IT operations or IT infrastructure environment.

Strong understanding of infrastructure operations such as networking, fiber, desktop/end-user services, or similar technology operations.

Strong financial management experience, including:

Budget tracking

Forecasting

Accruals

Budget-to-actual analysis

Spend tracking

Financial reporting

Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

Experience supporting multiple concurrent initiatives or operational workstreams.

Ability to work effectively with technical teams without creating unnecessary administrative or process overhead.

Ability to quickly understand established operational work and determine the appropriate level of project management oversight.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate directly and clearly without relying heavily on PM terminology.

Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting IT infrastructure lifecycle programs or recurring operational initiatives.

Experience with resource capacity planning.

Vendor management experience.

Experience reviewing invoices and allocating or reconciling costs against cost objects.

Experience working within a utility or similarly complex enterprise IT environment.

Experience managing multiple technology workstreams simultaneously.

Experience working with established IT operations teams supporting ongoing "run-the-business" activities.
