IT Business Analyst

About the Role Youngstown State University seeks an IT Business Analyst to manage technology in support of assigned operational units, advocate for new solutions, and enable efficient and affordable technology-enabled services for faculty, staff, and students.

What You'll Do

• Manage technology solutions for business and academic units and provide technical support for updating workflows, upgrades, testing, and modifications; serve as primary IT liaison with internal and external contacts.
• Lead technology projects and initiatives for assigned areas; keep stakeholders informed of system upgrades and potential performance impacts.
• Evaluate, test, and implement system upgrades/releases; ensure timelines, resources, and quality standards are met.
• Manage software for units, administer security roles, implement changes, and assist with project planning and scheduling.
• Research and implement technology solutions aligned with policies and institutional goals; deliver excellent customer service.
• Maintain and update software solutions to meet needs of faculty, staff, and students; extract data and develop reports, ensuring data integrity in Banner; produce regular error reports.
• Analyze and optimize workflows; automate processes and integrate technologies across stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities for technological innovation; collaborate to design, test, and deploy new solutions.
• Conduct data extraction, reporting, and analysis to inform operational decision-making and strategic planning.
• Provide technical guidance and training to drive user adoption of enterprise systems and applications.
• Develop documentation, procedures, and training materials related to system functionality and business processes.
• Build partnerships with leaders and subject matter experts to elicit requirements and understand evolving business needs.
• Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies in higher education.
• Train new hires and perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and two years of experience analyzing and supporting business applications; proficiency in data analysis, reporting tools, and coding/scripting; experience working with a technical team.
• Knowledge of university policies, IT service management (ITIL), workflow design, data governance, security practices, and project management.
• Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and written/verbal communication skills; ability to train others and work independently or in a team; ability to develop reports and analyze data.
• Proficiency with reporting tools and databases (e.g., SQL, PostgreSQL, Excel, Power BI, Ellucian insights).

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting educational technology applications (e.g., Ellucian Banner ERP, CRM) and other higher education enterprise systems.
• Experience in IT/business/data analyst roles.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and SQL queries.
