General Description
Performs moderately complex (journey-level) investigative work for the Probate Court; Work involves conducting investigations; Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Examples of Work Performed
Conducts investigations of alleged violations of laws, rules, and regulations for the Probate Court.
Conducts background and personal history investigations, reviews records, and verifies information.
Contacts and interviews potential witnesses Evaluates and summarizes investigative findings.
Prepares records, correspondence, and reports for the probate judge.
Assists in preparing and presenting information to appropriate law enforcement agencies.
May assist in collecting data and conducting field studies.
May present testimony and evidence in courts and formal hearings.
May serve subpoenas and make arrests.
Performs related work as assigned.
Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work in criminal justice or a related field.
Two (2) years of experience may be substituted for one (1) year of education.
One (1) year of experience in investigative work required.
Certificates, Licenses and Registration
May require licensure as an Investigator by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education.
Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license.
Must be able to be insured by the County’s insurance carrier.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of investigative principles, techniques, and procedures.
Skill in the operation of technical equipment and detection devices.
Ability to conduct investigations, to interpret and apply laws and regulations, to conduct interviews and gather facts, to evaluate findings, and to prepare reports.
