About this role

About the Role

UNESCO offers internships to gain experience in the daily operations of the United Nations system. Interns work in a team within a Programme Sector or Central Services at Headquarters, in a Field Office, or at an Institute, contributing to the Organization’s work and developing professional skills in a multicultural environment. You will be exposed to a range of colleagues and receive learning objectives through the supervisor’s Terms of Reference to guide your development.

What You'll Do

  • Carry out and prepare summaries of research
  • Contribute to the preparation of documents, including substantive and communication materials
  • Collect, analyze and present data
  • Assist in organizing and communicating about events
  • Participate in meetings and workshops with internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to the technical work of the team/Unit/Sector
  • Liaise with colleagues in other United Nations System entities
  • Perform tasks that may be required in specific projects

What We're Looking For

  • Age at least 20 years
  • Academic qualifications: currently enrolled and on the 3rd (third) year or final year of Bachelor’s degree; OR enrolled in a second university degree (Master’s or PhD) or equivalent; OR completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree no more than 12 months prior to the Internship Agreement
  • Excellent command of English or French (written and spoken); working knowledge of the other language is an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of computer systems and office-related software
  • Ability to work well in a team and adapt to an international working environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Nice to Have

  • Working knowledge of the other UNESCO language (English or French) is an asset
  • Openness to developing within UNESCO core competencies (Accountability, Communication, Teamwork, Innovation, Results focus, Planning and organizing, Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement)

Compensation & Benefits

  • UNESCO does not remunerate interns; there is no financial or other compensation
  • Leave: 2.5 days of leave per month, plus 1 additional working day per complete month of internship
  • Insurance: limited workplace insurance coverage against risk of injury, illness, disability, or death attributable to the internship
