About the Role

UpReach offers unpaid internships for students enrolled in a degree program at a higher learning institute. The organization provides opportunities across three internship tracks—Program Intern, Development Intern, and Social Media & Marketing Intern—to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit programming, fundraising, and communications. Interns complete volunteer training and Taking the Lead training; prior horse experience is not required, and internships involve working onsite with horses and participants.

What You'll Do

Program Intern: Provide program support, volunteer management, disability awareness, general horse care, therapeutic riding/driving lesson planning, and direct support to individuals with disabilities; participate in multiple areas to experience daily nonprofit operations.

Development Intern: Assist with fundraising efforts; learn donor cycle and donor communication, donor acknowledgement and stewardship; support direct mail, email campaigns, monthly giving, event sponsorships, and in-kind donations; help with event planning and logistics; attend volunteer training and be scheduled in therapeutic riding/driving lessons to understand programming and its impact.

Social Media & Marketing Intern: Collaborate with Development Director to enhance UpReach's blogging, email marketing, and social media strategies; assist with creating and executing a social media and digital marketing plan; attend volunteer training and be scheduled in therapeutic riding/driving lessons and/or hippotherapy sessions; may photograph horses, lessons, and volunteers; develop and edit videos and identify story ideas for development, marketing, and public relations.

For Program Intern: Majors include Animal Science, Child Development, Education, English, Exercise Science, Human Service, Leadership, Psychology, Sociology & Social Work, Special Education, Sport Management, or Recreation.

For Development Intern: Majors include Communications, English, History, Philosophy, Psychology, Political Science, Public Relations, Social Work.

For Social Media & Marketing Intern: Majors include Communications, English, Graphic Design & Media Arts, Journalism, Marketing, Photography, Photojournalism, Social Media Marketing.

Personal traits: Self-motivated, team oriented, able to meet deadlines, and flexible to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment; willing to learn and complete volunteer training; prior horse experience is not required.

Compensation & Benefits

Unpaid internship with volunteer training and professional development opportunities; interns gain exposure to nonprofit programming, fundraising, and communications. Training includes Taking the Lead, and interns may participate in onsite riding/driving activities to better understand programming and its impact.
