About the Role International Student Advisor at Syracuse University supports immigration compliance for a large international student and scholar community. The role involves creating and processing immigration documents, reporting, and managing status-related benefits, while educating the community on immigration responsibilities to thrive on campus.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a Designated School Official / International Student Advisor
- Advise students on immigration and visa matters via drop-in, scheduled appointments, phone, video, and email
- Process immigration-related benefit applications (CPT, OPT, STEM Extensions, reporting, extensions, dependents, transfers, travel signatures)
- Stay informed on evolving immigration regulations; contribute to policies and office website content
- Update immigration records, SEVIS registrations, program information, batch processing, and data gathering projects
- Conduct informational seminars on CPT and OPT
- Manage the International Student and Scholar Portal (Tera-Dotta)
- Other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent; Master’s preferred
- 3+ years in an office with an international education exchange focus
- 3+ years’ experience with U.S. immigration regulations
- US citizenship or lawful permanent resident status
- Strong technology skills: MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook; SEVIS, PeopleSoft, Oracle experience
- Knowledge of F and J immigration regulations; data management and analytical skills
- Excellent written and oral communication in English
- Cross-cultural background; second language fluency; experience living or working abroad preferred
- NAFA: Association of International Educators involvement preferred
Nice to Have
- Participation in NAFSA is preferred
- Additional second language proficiency and international living/working experience
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $62,400 per year
