About the Role AFSCME Local 3299 Internal Organizer based in Davis, CA, is seeking an Internal Organizer to conduct internal organizing campaigns, recruit and develop workplace leaders, and carry out comprehensive campaigns to advance member-driven campaigns at UC Davis. The role involves travel, evening and weekend work, and home visits as needed to effectively mobilize members. What You'll Do
- Recruit and develop worksite leaders to become involved in the Member Action Team and other union activities.
- Develop volunteer organizers and/or lost timers from within the AFSCME membership.
- Develop broad, representative organizing committees of worksite leaders, and train them to move worksite organizing campaigns.
- Visit job sites to communicate with workers and visit workers in their homes.
- Write leaflets and other materials for organizing campaigns.
- Obtain and create employee charts; maintain lists and input on computerized database systems.
- Inform Lead Organizer and other supervisors of activities, developments and progress of organizing activity.
- Use knowledge of basic labor law (FMLA, ADA, OSHA, Workers Compensation, Fair Housing and Employment).
- Meet goals and deadlines; promptly return phone calls, especially to members.
- Complete administrative tasks (Expense or Hudson Reports).
- Accept and apply feedback from Lead Organizer or supervisor.
- Provide representation for members in cases involving violations of our contract.
- Perform related work as required.
- Report to a Lead Organizer or assigned supervisor and maintain regular communication. What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma and 6 months to 3 years of union organizing experience; or successful completion of an AFSCME 3299 internship or equivalent.
- Knowledge of union organizing principles; leadership and motivational skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills; bilingual skills desirable.
- Knowledge of anti-union employer tactics; basic knowledge of labor laws related to organizing.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Email).
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends; extended day and occasional overnight travel.
- Valid California driver's license, auto insurance with business coverage, and automobile for business use. Nice to Have
- Fluent bilingual skills (Spanish/Cantonese/English) preferred. Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $82,053.58 – $125,926.19 per year (annual salary).
